He found a video online of a California boy whose Dravet was being successfully treated with cannabis. The strain was low in tetrahydrocannabinol, or THC, the compound in marijuana that's psychoactive. It was also high in cannabidiol, or CBD, which has medicinal properties but no psychoactivity. Scientists think the CBD quiets the excessive electrical and chemical activity in the brain that causes seizures. It had worked in this boy; his parents saw a major reduction in the boy's seizures.
By then Charlotte had lost the ability to walk, talk and eat.
She was having 300 grand mal seizures a week.....

Medical Marijuana For Rheumatoid Arthritis and Osteoarthritis has currently proven to be effective and successful for assisting men and women manage arthritis. These types of disorders are usually painful and distressful and medical marijuana seems to help alleviate and relieve the chronic pain stimulated and brought on by arthritis. The utilization of marijuana for medicinal reasons, most notably to alleviate pain, appears to have been used since the 1700's.
Medical marijuana has additionally demonstrated an ability to directly treat inflammatory diseases. There is proof that medical marijuana has powerful immune-modulation and anti-inflammatory qualities. Among the non-psychoactive elements of marijuana is actually cannabidiol. This has been found to restrain an immune reaction in rats and mice that is similar to arthritis. It has been discovered to minimize destruction to the joints of rats and mice.
Scientific testing on people have additionally proven medical marijuana to be successful to fight arthritis. Range of motion, mobility and stiffness are actually proven to increase and reduce respectively. When utilizing medical marijuana, sufferers are actually able to use much less non-steroidal, anti-inflammatory drugs, which may be potentially harmful, dangerous and unsafe.
An additional primary element of marijuana is THC. When the human body metabolizes THC, it generates an amount of chemicals, which includes at least one which has an anti-inflammatory as well as pain relieving results.

Marijuana extracts, taken orally, significant reduce muscle stiffness, pain and spasticity in patients with multiple sclerosis (MS), according to 2012 clinical trial data published in the Journal of Neurology, Neurosurgery & Psychiatry.
Scientists at the University of Plymouth in the U.K. looked at the medicinal use of cannabinoids compared to a placebo in 279 patients with MS over a 12-week period, reports NORML. Cannabis extracts used in the study contained standardized amounts of tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) and non-psychoactive cannabidIol (CBD), two of the major medicinal cannabinoids in the plant.
The orally administered marijuana extracts were superior over a placebo in the treatment of MS-associated muscle stiffness and pain, investigators reported. Treatment with standardized oral extract of cannabis sativa relieved muscle stiffness, the authors concluded. The proportion of participants experiencing relief was almost twice as large in the cannabis extract group as in the placebo group.
Effective pain relief is also achieved by cannabis extracts, especially in patients with a high baseline score, the investigators reported. Our findings suggest that standardized cannabis extracts can be clinically useful in treating the highly complex phenomenon of spasticity in MS.

A new study being published in next month's issue of the journal Biochemical Society Transactions, and published online early by the National Institute of Health, has found that the brain's endocannabinoid system which is activated through cannabis use has neuroprotective and immunomodulatory capabilities, and may lead to the growth of stem cells.
Activation of cannabinoid receptors suppresses chronic inflammatory responses through the attenuation of pro-inflammatory mediators, states the studies abstract. Moreover, the endocannabinoid system directs cell fate specification of NSCs (neural stem cells) in the CNS (central nervous system).
According to researchers; Pharmacological blockade of CB1 and/or CB2 cannabinoid receptors abolish or decrease NSC proliferation, indicating a critical role for both CB1 and CB2 receptors in the proliferation of NSC via IL-1 signalling pathways.

Montana PBS's new documentary, Clearing the Smoke, reveals how cannabis acts on the brain and in the body to treat nausea, pain, epilepsy and potentially even cancer.
Extensive interviews with patients, doctors, researchers and skeptics detail the promises and the limitations of medicinal cannabis. Even though the video has an American perspective, marijuana use is illegal throughout many countries of the world for reasons that are not clear.
This video is important because it mainly investigates the scientific basis underlying the medical benefits of marijuana use instead of focusing on the social, political and legal hysteria that have been attached to it.

Breast Cancer kills so many woman annually. We hear all the time that there are no cures for cancer. But what most of us are really saying is that there are no profitable cures for cancer that can be patented and turned into billions of dollars of revenue a year for pharmaceutical companies.
There is indeed a cure for cancer. However it has the ability to empower every human being on this planet.
Some people have heard that cannabis helps nausea for cancer patients and believe this is the extend of the medical properties that this plant holds. It however goes much deeper. This plant and its therapeutic compounds eliminate cancer and tumors. They do this by starving the cancer of its nutrients which stops it from spreading (ceramide). The cannabinoids tell the cancer cell to effectively self destruct. This is an amazing discovery and it has been seen in research labs since the 1970's.

Cannabis, demonetized in the 30s under the name marijuana since it wasn't understood back then, is actually not a narcotic. It produces no physical addiction and is extraordinarily non-toxic, meaning that you can't have a lethal overdose of it as you can with nearly all other drugs, even over-the-counter ones. So cannabis is actually more accurately classified as a herb, which is what the plant is botanically

Marijuana could fight disease in future generations, as a recent study indicates that cannabis compounds have proven to have significant strength in the modification of gene activity.
Researchers from the University of South Carolina School of Medicine say they have discovered a particular group of microRNA that signifies a metamorphosis in rats exposed to tetrahydrocannabinol (THC).
This finding is significantly important became microRNA is a contributing factor in the regulation of genes, and many believe it is responsible for causing a variety of debilitating diseases.
According to lead researchers Prakash Nagarkatti, Ph.D. and Mitzi Nagarkatti, Ph.D., after studying nearly 610 various microRNAs, they found that 13 of them had a substantial reaction to THC, including mir-690, which had the most optimistic response and could eventually lead to advanced treatments for inflammatory diseases as well as cancer.

Marijuana is used to relieve symptoms associated with gastrointestinal distress or disease, has been studied in clinical trials and has been used, found to be a useful treatment by doctors who are experimenting with it with their patients and patients themselves who happen to discover it on their own. I remember the case of one young man in his twenties I interviewed who had ulcerative colitis. Severe, bloody, inflammatory disease caused him a lot of pain and cramping. He was going towards the route of needing surgery and he told me that once he was at a friend's house and they said you should try smoking marijuana when he was having one of these really severe exacerbation and he said, "Are you kidding? Really? What's this gonna do?" And he didn't believe it but then he described to me and I took very detailed notes of this interview and recorded it. He described how all of a sudden when he used this marijuana that he had an immediate relief of all the cramping and pain in his gut and he was able to actually sit down comfortably and going to the emergency room and since that time he continued to integrate this into his treatment to the point where his GI doctor, his gastroenterologist had written an authorization letter to allow him to use it for the treatment of his ulcerative colitis. It's a fantastic thing for a p.....

Scientific scrutiny and measurable, repeatable results are core underpinnings of judging a viable medication. The AHP is staffed by a worldwide network of botanists, chemists, herbalists, medical doctors, pharmacists, pharmacologists,

Substances harvested from cannabis plants could soon outshine conventional antibiotics in the escalating battle against drug-resistant bacteria. The compounds, called cannabinoids, appear to be unaffected by the mechanism that superbugs like MRSA use to evade existing antibiotics. Scientists from Italy and the United Kingdom, who published their research in the Journal of Natural Products last month, say that cannabis-based creams could also be developed to treat persistent skin infections.
Cannabis has long been known to have antibacterial properties and was studied in the 1950s as a treatment for tuberculosis and other diseases. But research into using cannabis as an antibiotic has been limited by poor knowledge of the plant's active ingredients and by the controversy surrounding its use as a recreational drug.

Under the leadership of Prakash Nagarkatti and Mitzi Nagarkatti, researchers at the USC (University of South Carolina) School of Medicine have been studying the effect of the active ingredient in marijuana on autoimmune diseases for more than a decade. Their research on the impact of this principal ingredient or THC (tetrahydrocannabinol) on diseases at the molecular level is unveiling its possible medical benefits, leading USC researchers to new possibilities.
In the latest study, researcher Venkatesh Hegde's team deals with THC's impact on microRNA, a recently discovered class of molecules. Ribonucleic acid (RNA) regulates genetic activity and expression and microRNA are small RNA molecules that are responsible for gene regulation. Altering these molecules, which affects their activity levels, is helpful in arthritis, MS (multiple sclerosis), and diabetes treatment

Whereas up to 64% of Canadians support legalization of cannabis, we demand that the will of the people be heard via constitutional due process;
WHEREAS, despite almost a century of prohibition, millions of Canadians today regularly consume cannabis and other cannabis products for medical, spiritual and social reasons;
WHEREAS cannabis is valuable for agricultural, medical and industrial products and presents a means of reducing global warming;

Searching for the scientific origins of Canada's marijuana prohibition is a quick exercise. There was no science used to justify the laws instituted 90 years ago, just a mess of panic, racism and accident that has metastasized over time.
Today we are in an unlikely position. American jurisdictions have begun to craft new pot policies. But Canada lumbers on, even strengthening the legislation it inherited from an era of confusion.
Yet there was one moment midway between then and now when it seemed like everything might change. In 1969, Prime Minister Pierre Trudeau's government struck a royal commission and tasked it with an evidence-based examination of drug use and policy.
